The Fish

Despite the pressures of commercial fishing on local stocks, the Cebu area provides satisfying, and sometimes downright adventurous, fishing.

Local fishing:
Local species include Trevally (Mamsa), Spanish Mackerel (Tanguigue), varieties of Tuna (including, Bonito, Yellow Fin, Bigeye, Dogtooth,) Barracuda, Dorado & Wahoo. Billfish are less plentiful but include Sailfish, Marlin, Spearfish & Broadbill Swordfish. Reef fishing, mainly at night, can produce varieties of Grouper, Coral trout, Wrasse, Parrotfish & many other species. Fishing for Squid at night can be very productive.

Offshore fishing:
This is done mainly out of Pilar in Siargao Island, and can be very good depending on season and weather. The Sail-fishing, in particular, can be especially good in the Spring months of February to April. This year we will also be targeting Marlin, Broadbill Swordfish & Yellow Fin Tuna on 30lb & 50lb stand-up tackle.

Yellow Fin Tuna

A renowned, deep, lightning fast fighter. This open ocean warrior one will let you know you've been in a tussle by the time you land him.

Barracuda

On first snagging this guy you'll get a powerful run, possibly including spectacular jumps. Eventually the runs will shorten as you wear him down.

Blue Marlin

What can we say? Get a hit from this baby and you'll wish you'd eaten your Wheaties that morning. Arm-wrenching jumps and direction changes... F1 speed... deep dives. Serious bragging rights come with landing this all-time great!

Wahoo

With near 50 mile an hour surface runs interspersed with mid-water runs, this guy will give you a workout.

Tanguigue

This guy likes very long surface runs with an ocassional mid-water plunge to keep you guessing.

Parrotfish

Likes the outer coral but this master of deception will find obstacles in the shallow flats to confound you.

Trevally

This tenacious scrapper won't give up. He likes to head down deep and can find maddening obstructions just about anywhere.

Wrasse

Don't be fooled by a pretty face. Another street fighter. Fast and relentless, this guy just never says "uncle".

Dorado

This gymnast of the sea will dazzle you with his arial acrobatics and direction changes A good one.
