Seriously Seeking Cetaceans
Few things on this earth can inspire awe, reverence, and
even joy as much as seeing whales and dolphins in their natural domain -
rather than on TV, video or as hapless stars of aquarium freak shows where their
larger-than-human cerebral cortex is put to work performing trivial,
degrading tricks.
Only in
the sea itself can the true majesty of these wondrous creatures be fully
appreciated. There is simply nothing quite like it.

Although we see Whale-sharks and Pilot whales in the Camotes
Sea and around Cebu frequently, without doubt the best place to spot
these is around the southern end of Bohol and Cebu. Pamilican Island, off
Panglao, Bohol has the reputation of being especially good at certain times
of the year. From Cebu, an inexpensive overnight stay (from about P800) in Panglao or Balicasag island would be necessary.
Dolphins can be seen almost year-round within an hour of
Cebu.
Stash your harpoon, grab your camera, and
let's go scope out the whales and their cetaceous cousins.
